Tyra Banks is an American model, media personality, business women, actress, and a singer. She shot to fame as a model in Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo and New York.

Tyra Lynne Banks was born on 4th December 1973 in California to parents Carolyn London and Donald Banks. Her parents separated when she was 6 years old. Banks attended John Burroughs Middle School and later attended Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles graduating in 1991.

She also became the first African American to be featured on the covers of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and Victoria’s Secret catalog. She retired from the modeling career in 2005, walking for the final time on the runway for Victoria’s Secret Fashion show. This was a measure that she took to focus on her television career.

Called America’s premier model, media personality, actress, singer, author and astute businesswoman, Tyra started her career as a model in the Sport’s Illustrated Swimsuit issue and the first African American woman on the coverage of a Victoria’s Secret catalog. She has gone on to prepare a novel, Modelland, host her own television show (America’s Next Top Model) and talk show (The Tyra Banks Show).

Her debut in television was made with playing the major role in’ The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ which was on the work of its fourth season; she appeared seven times during the series. She later went on to assume various functions in the small screen.

Currently she is the hostess, judge and executive producer of the show’ America’s Next Top Model’. She also host the daytime talk show’ The Tyra Banks Show’ that is aimed at the younger women. The show tries to deal with many of the problems that women face today. She won the Daytime Emmy Award for her work on this show.

The Tyra Banks Show is up for six Daytime Emmy awards including Outstanding Talk Show and Talk Show Host. Its third season is due to start airing on September 10, 2007 and the show has been picked up for a fourth season.

Her first major role in big screen happened with’ Higher Learning’. She went on to star in quite number of movies thereafter like the’ Life Size ‘,’ Love Stinks ‘,’ Coyote Ugly ‘, etc.

Banks has also appeared in numerous music videos such as Michael Jackson’s’ Black or White ‘, Mobb Deep’s’ Trife Life’ and George Michael’s’ Too Funky’. In 2004 she had released her first single’ Shake Ya Body’ which proved to be a failure.
